What fabrics do I love to use for still-life photos?
After getting lots of questions on fabrics to use in still life photos – I have put together this video to show you what I like to use and give you some tips on searching out fabrics that will work well for you. Some of my favorite fabrics come from Etsy (I search for cheesecloth baby wraps), Intuition backdrops (I like using baby wraps for still life photos), and the beautiful loose weave fabrics in the sampler sets from Silk & Willow.
I like to use mostly loose weave lightweight fabrics that drape well. If you are having trouble draping fabrics that look interesting and natural as opposed to still and placed – then I’m betting your fabric is too thick and you’ll want to look around for something like I’m showing you in the video.

You are so value added! Great information! Thanks, Denise!
Thank you!! 🙂
Thanks for this video, great tips! I learned new things
So glad it was helpful! Thank you 🙂
Great info, Denise! Lately, I’ve had luck in the seasonal department of Hobby Lobby. They have a nice selection of dyed cheesecloth they are calling table scarves. Only $5.99 but they are on sale at 40% off. Deal! LOL
Great find! Thanks for sharing! 🙂
I too found some at HobbyLobby. I have gone the Intuition Backgrounds also. Both have nice drape! Love your stuff, Denise!!
Thank you! 🙂
Thank you so much for this! I am wondering what size you recommend for the cheesecloth? There are a variety of colors on Etsy but they offer 45″, then the next size is five feet! Seems a bit big for a tabletop still life. Love your work!!
Thank you! I think mine is probably the 45″ size, they are about 4 feet long or shorter for some pieces. 🙂
