Tiny Details – Macro Workshop:

Your workshop includes 38 Videos – with approx 6 1/2 hours of learning, tons of information and techniques in each lesson, and over a dozen class assignments to help you learn and reinforce your class lessons.

I have separated this class into 5 modules:

The basics:

In this module, we have tons of good information and techniques we are going to talk about to get you on a really good footing with your macro work.

  • We’ll cover my equipment and all the choices you might consider with your macro photography
  • What is macro and what do the macro ratios mean
  • Using natural and artificial light
  • Plane of focus and depth of field and how they work together
  • Manual vs autofocus and which you should be using
  • Exposure triangle and effective aperture in macro
  • Color theory and creating moods with your macro photography
  • We’ll also take a good look into composition and the rules of composition as they pertain to your macro work

Fun Projects And Field Trips:

This is my favorite module. We are going to look at lots of great techniques and creative hacks for your macro work. I show you how to push your creativity in camera and get the most stunning photos while you are out shooting. You’ll also go around with me on several field trips and see the photos I got from each location. I want to inspire you and push you to get out and really work on your skills while you are taking this workshop.

  • Free-lensing
  • Waterdrops
  • Focus Stacking
  • Creative hacks at the botanical garden
  • Around the house
  • At the train yard
  • Oakland Cemetery
  • Into the woods
  • Old Car City

Unconventional Lens Choices:

We’ll dive into what other choices you have beyond the standard macro lens. So many classes teach that you need a $1,000 macro lens to do macro photography and a $1,200 tripod to go with it. They are so limited in their view about how you can do macro photos that it really out-prices this genre for many.

In this class, I want to show you that it isn’t always about having the most expensive gear. It is about the gear you choose and how creative you can get with it. Some of my very favorite lenses are not even macro lenses – they are vintage lenses – that I got off eBay for $50. By combining these cheap manual lenses with extension tubes – I get some of the most amazing macro photos that are so much better than I get with my standard macro lens. It is exciting when you push your skills and grow in ways you never thought possible just by thinking a bit out of the norm.

  • Lensbaby 56 & 85
  • Vintage lenses
  • Other Lensbaby lenses
  • Standard lenses with extension tubes
  • How to keep track of the lenses you are using

A Study In Macro:

In this module, we’ll go through an exciting series of assignments designed to help you push your new skills further. We’ll have a pre-assignment to get you started in looking and studying macro photos and styles. Then we’ll have a dozen different assignments to help you really understand and reinforce the lessons you studied in earlier modules.

Edits & Bonuses:

In this module, you’ll find your bonus collections and 11 editing videos where we look at using the presets and textures on a variety of photos we took during this workshop. Bringing your vision for an image to life with your editing can be so rewarding. It allows you to elevate an ordinary scene, adding depth and dimension that can transform an image.

Bonus collections:

1 Bonus ACR Preset Collection – Tiny Details Lightroom collection is an absolutely beautiful set of Presets that I created for you while filming this workshop. There are 50 presets in this collection that are compatible with Lightroom 7.3 and up, Camera Raw, and Photoshop Classic & CC. (Note: Not compatible with older versions of Lightroom) (If you don’t use Lightroom or Photoshop – no problem. These are simply a bonus I have added in for those who do to give a spin. You can edit in any program you feel comfortable in.)

1 Bonus Texture Collection – Tiny Details Texture set is a gorgeous set of textures designed specifically with macro photography in mind. I have created a beautiful collection full of subtle details designed to enhance all your macro photographs. This set has 30 fine art textures / 6000px X 4000px / 300 DPI / JPEG. The secret to using textures successfully with macro is subtly… You want to use the texture to enhance your vision – not compete with it.
