Description
Explore pattern, color, and texture—one mini masterpiece at a time.
Unlock the joy of mixed media through the playful structure of a grid! In this creative and approachable class, you’ll learn how to build your artistic voice using small, expressive squares that come together into one cohesive work of art. Whether you’re brand new to mixed media or looking for fresh inspiration, this format is perfect for experimenting, loosening up, and discovering what makes your art yours.
We’ll work through a full 12-square grid together, but the techniques are endlessly adaptable for journals, sketchbooks, or series-based art.
This class is about exploration without pressure, building confidence through repetition, and discovering how small studies can lead to big breakthroughs in your creative practice.
**The video workshops come with Online access and you can download videos to keep.

Bold orange marks, soft turquoise layers, and scratched white lines bring energy and contrast to these small abstract studies.
Check out what students are saying about this workshop:
“Denise is an excellent teacher–her classes are always full of useful information, techniques, and new mixed media supplies! I always enjoy spending the day with one of Denise’s classes. Thank you, Denise! ~Linda F.
“Denise is such an inspirational teacher! Her enthusiasm for art as play is infectious. If you are hesitant about making abstract art, give this class a try. If you are already making abstract art, you will also have fun with Denise’s classes.” ~Jenny S
“Fabulous Class, fabulous Teacher! Easy to follow, impossible to NOT be inspired by! The richness of example artworks, which just by looking at, set a motivational process in motion. And then to see the detailed process of creating such artworks and applying it in my own free-flowing creative way, is very fulfilling! Thank you, Denise!” ~ Gitesha
“I love how Denise teaches! She doesn’t just show you a project; she shows you how to be a more resilient and playful artist. Watching her embrace her own mistakes and turn them into something beautiful has completely changed how I look at my own work. Highly recommend!” ~Lucy B.
“I love learning to be more playful with my artistic endeavors. Denise is great at “playing with everything” and having fun. I have a tendency to “save” supplies for the perfect project instead of playing with them and learning what I can (and can’t) do with them.” ~ Karen W.
Paint, markers, and simple tools create endless possibilities for playful marks inside each small mixed media square.
