Description
This is a collection of classes I created to let loose and have fun. We’ll be exploring new supplies and techniques to have some fun.
Intuitive Acrylic Abstract Painting: Letting Loose with Your Paint Practice
In this class, we are going to do some intuitive painting without worrying about the outcome of our pieces. I love to create in this way because I always learn new things and make new discoveries. When you pull the tape off your pieces, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how well your pieces come out.
I want you to use a color palette you wouldn’t normally choose. I use one of my favorite design books to inspire color palettes… then I pull out a collection of paints and supplies that I want to create with to go with my new color palette and start painting. If you’ve never tried this before, or maybe you are in a rut, definitely give it a go. It is the perfect way to start creating when you feel stuck and the results are sometimes very exciting.
This class is for you if:
- You love learning new techniques for your art
- You are interested in learning more about intuitive painting and letting go of expectations
- You love watching how others approach their art practice
Supplies:
These are the supplies I’ll be using in class today. You can use any paints, mark-making tools, etc… that your heart desires to do this project. It is so open to what inspires you in the moment.
- Canson xl cold press 140lb watercolor paper
- artist tape
- acrylic paints of your choice for the color palette you are trying out
- mark making tools – I used a pencil for mark making
- posca pen – I love adding extra marks at the end with my posca pen
- I love using punchinella for my dots and shelf liner – so I’m using those in class
- any other favorite tools you want to work with on your pieces
Intuitive Painting: Creating Abstracts with Peerless Watercolors
In this class, we are going to play and experiment with Peerless Handmade Watercolor Sheets. These paints are super cool and a bit different than traditional watercolors. Very vibrant in color. Really convenient to take with you to create when you don’t want to take all your supplies with you.
We are going to create a set of 4 paintings, starting out with them all taped together and painting on them as if they are 1 big sheet. Then we will peel the tape and evaluate how successful each piece turned out and what additional items are needed to finish out our pieces. Whether that be extra paint, marks, or other materials that inspire you.
I truly enjoy these intuitive sessions. We get to play and experiment. Letting go of expectations and just having some fun. These times are what allow you to grow as an artist and have fun creating in unexpected ways.
This class is for you if:

- Kuretake Gold Mica Ink – or any of your favorite mark-making pens like Posca pens
- any other supplies you feel inspired to try
Intuitive Painting: Creating Abstracts In Acrylic Inks & Gold Mica Ink
In this class, we are going to play and experiment with acrylic inks and gold mica ink to explore and create some fun abstracts. I love using this intuitive painting kind of process to explore my supplies and my colors. I always end up with fun things and it combines 2 of my favorite ways to create – tape pealing… and cutting up pieces if I see a better composition in finished pieces.
I’m calling these painting sessions Intuitive Painting sessions because I want to create without expectation. I want to have fun, and explore how to use my supplies in new ways. Push the boundaries of what I thought some of the supplies could do. I want to put marks down where it just feels right without worrying about composition. When we are finished we will peal off our tape and reveal our art pieces. I love doing this. Some pieces come out amazing. Some come out and I cut them up into something amazing. No matter what though, I always have some fun and walk away having enjoyed my time at my art table.
This class is for you if:
- You love learning new techniques for your art
- You are interested in learning more about letting loose and having fun while you paint
- You love watching how others approach their art practice
Supplies:

- Acrylic inks – I show you all the colors I’m using in class during the supply video – you can use any colors you have on hand or substitute other supplies if you feel inspired.
- Kuretake Gold Mica Ink – I love this gold ink – but you can use posca pens or other inks in your pieces if you have something you love
- Ruling Pen – I love using this pen for dipping into my ink for mark-making. You could use a regular dip pen or brush if you have that on hand.
- Painters tape
Intuitive Painting: Creating Abstracts In Liquid Charcoal & India Ink
In this class, we are going to play and experiment with Liquid Charcoal and India Ink. I was feeling a bit more minimalistic and thought let’s really limit our supplies and see what minimal abstracts we could create. The liquid charcoal works just like watercolor – but comes out a bit chalky feeling when dry. I love that gritty aspect of using it. The color is a bit smoky also. Not a gray, not a black, but a pretty smoky combination of those. The India Ink is fun to experiment with using your dip pen for super fine lines and mark-making.
This is part of my intuitive painting series. This is where we are taping down several sheets of paper and paint on them as if they were one large piece of paper. Then peal off the tape when we are finished to reveal what we created. I’m not worried about composition or being very specific. I am painting with some abandoned. Where it feels good to just put down color and see what you can get. When we are done we’ll have some awesome abstracts to keep as is – or to cut up into a better composition. Either way, we will get things we love playing in our supplies and experimenting.
This class is for you if:
- You love learning new techniques for your art
- You are interested in playing and experimenting with your art supplies without tons of pressure when you create
- You love watching how others approach their art practice

Intuitive Painting: Creating Abstracts with E-Sumi Ink Watercolors

Then we will peel the tape and evaluate how successful each piece turned out and what additional items are needed to finish out our pieces.
