Painting Abstracts in My Handmade Journal + Taping Off Different Sizes
Today I’m back in my Bare Spine Beauty journal, continuing to fill the pages with playful abstract studies inspired by color palettes from The Color Cube. I chose a different dominant color for each painting to see how the same palette shifts when one hue takes the lead, and I taped off different sizes to add a little extra composition interest across the spread. For these layers, I’m mixing Holbein gouache with lots of mark making using Faber-Castell Black Collection pencils, Kingart gel sticks, Kuretake silver ink in a fine line bottle, and Posca pens for texture, contrast, and those satisfying little details. If you love color exploration, mixed media layering, and easy abstract ideas for your art journal, this one’s for you.

Looking for the supplies I used? I’ve listed all my favorite and most-used materials on one easy-to-update page here: https://2lilowls.com/favorite-supplies-for-mixed-media-abstract-art/
(Some of the links are affiliate links. If you use my link, I get a small commission, which will go toward my art supplies and to support this channel! I appreciate your support!!)
Note: I don’t list individual supply links on every post any longer, simply because keeping up with that for each video or project took more time than I have. Instead, I’ve created one easy-to-browse page where I’ve listed all my favorite and most-used art supplies. It’s always up to date, and a great place to find what I’m working with most often.

Hi – I’m so glad I found your space – I LOVE all of your work! I heard on one of your videos that you don’t sell your pieces. What do you do with all of them? I don’t like to sell my artwork either, for a number of reasons. But I’d like ideas on what to do with all of it. Thanks!
So glad you are here! I keep everything as samples and inspiration since I make videos and classes. I like to work in art journals a lot now also – so then I have a finished art book when I am done.
