Mini Abstract Paintings with Dramatic Color and Playful Mark Making
In this art journal session, I’m continuing in my Etchr Perfect Sketchbook with the Holbein Irodori gouache sets and leaning into a warmer, moodier palette of deep black, rusty red, ochre, blush pink, coral, and soft metallic touches. These mini mixed media studies are full of layered arches, loose floral shapes, striped marks, dotted details, smoky edges, and bold contrast, with each little rectangle becoming its own tiny abstract world. I’m pulling from the supplies I’ve been keeping on my desk for this journal, including gouache, Kingart gel crayons, Neocolor II pastels, pencils, Posca marker, tempera sticks, metallic watercolor, and fine line mica inks, and letting the pages build through color play, texture, and intuitive mark making. Come hang out in the studio as I keep exploring this new art journal one small painting at a time.
Looking for the supplies I used? I’ve listed all my favorite and most-used materials on one easy-to-update page here: https://2lilowls.com/favorite-supplies-for-mixed-media-abstract-art/
(Some of the links are affiliate links. If you use my link, I get a small commission, which will go toward my art supplies and to support this channel! I appreciate your support!!)
Note: I don’t list individual supply links on every post any longer, simply because keeping up with that for each video or project took more time than I have. Instead, I’ve created one easy-to-browse page where I’ve listed all my favorite and most-used art supplies. It’s always up to date, and a great place to find what I’m working with most often.
