You wouldn’t usually consider a grey drizzly day your lucky day… but today was just that… grey, drizzly, kinda dark… but definitely my lucky day. I got a new mug at TJMaxx and wanted to do a small set up in the window to see how it photographed. I picked out a few cheese cloths in various colors and got all set up. Opened the curtains… and the light was magic. That is what I’d definitely call my lucky day.
For this set up I have a wood surface I’m set up on by my favorite window. I have my old crate on the table that I am using as a backdrop (more to suck up the light and give me a dark background than anything else). I have draped a pretty yellow cheesecloth (which by the way I got off of Etsy… there are tons of little shops on there selling these in all kinds of colors for baby wraps) and some dried hydrangeas from my plant outside.
I have the light coming in from the window softly from the left side and all off the lights in the room off so I only have the natural light on my setup.
For these photos I was using my Canon 24-70 2.8 L lens – I absolutely love that lens. Canon EOS 5D Mark III | ISO200 |1/80s | f3.2
*All of these finished photos were processed with the Scrumptious Lightroom Preset collection included in the Food Workshop
This is a pullback of my set up – I kept it simple for this shoot.
This time I was shooting toward the window since the light was so soft and pretty creating some really nice backlighting.
Then I went in for some pretty detail shots. I had some dried hydrangeas I have been saving since the summer and thought the colors were perfect in this set.
Getting in closer still. You want to be shooting from all angles and don’t forget to get in close for some pretty detail shots.
When I was shooting this set up – I made sure I had enough blur in the photo that I could add some subtle texture to it. The 1st photo is before I added a texture. The 2nd photo is with the Delectable texture 10 (the texture set in the food workshop). I love the feel of this with the texture!
Just love the way you set your scenes Denise. I have learnt soooo much from your teachings this past year including the 2 workshops I enrolled on plus joining the Texture Club. Your blog is one I have returned to over and over for inspiration. It’s been a difficult year with the heartbreaking loss of my mum just days after Christmas but I immersed myself in photography and particularly the teachings here on this site and found some much respite along the way. I just wish mum was around to see how much I have progressed. She would be so proud. Thank you for putting so much time and effort into your products. They are a credit to you.
Thank you so very much! So very sorry for your loss. I lost my mother 4 years ago and photography really helped me get through that time also. I still think about her every day and want to pick up the phone and just hear her voice again. <3
I know exactly what you mean Denise. Xx
