Beginning a New Art Journal with Watercolor, Pattern and Texture
In this video, I’m beginning the art journal that grew out of my Kuretake watercolor swatching session. For these opening pages, I combined the watercolors with a selection of mixed media supplies, building layers of rich burgundy, warm ochre, earthy green and soft pink, then adding stripes, dots, repeated marks and fine linear details. I kept the process playful and intuitive, creating a bold patterned inside cover and a smaller layered composition to set the mood for the painted pages that follow in this series.
Looking for the supplies I used? I’ve listed all my favorite and most-used materials on one easy-to-update page here: https://2lilowls.com/favorite-supplies-for-mixed-media-abstract-art/
(Some of the links are affiliate links. If you use my link, I get a small commission, which will go toward my art supplies and to support this channel! I appreciate your support!!)
Note: I don’t list individual supply links on every post any longer, simply because keeping up with that for each video or project took more time than I have. Instead, I’ve created one easy-to-browse page where I’ve listed all my favorite and most-used art supplies. It’s always up to date, and a great place to find what I’m working with most often.
