Art Play Session: Abstract With Kuretake Watercolors and Tempera Paint Sticks
Today I’m playing with abstract layers and mark making by creating one mixed media piece from start to finish. I’m using my Kuretake Art Nouveau watercolors, Kingart gel sticks, tempera paint sticks, acrylic paint pens, and a few extra favorites to build color, texture, and movement on paper. If you love art journaling, intuitive painting, or you just want fresh ideas for loosening up and experimenting, come paint with me and grab a few techniques you can use in your own abstract practice.
Looking for the supplies I used? I’ve listed all my favorite and most-used materials on one easy-to-update page here: https://2lilowls.com/favorite-supplies-for-mixed-media-abstract-art/
(Some of the links are affiliate links. If you use my link, I get a small commission, which will go toward my art supplies and to support this channel! I appreciate your support!!)
Note: I don’t list individual supply links on every post any longer, simply because keeping up with that for each video or project took more time than I have. Instead, I’ve created one easy-to-browse page where I’ve listed all my favorite and most-used art supplies. It’s always up to date, and a great place to find what I’m working with most often.

Good morning,
I love your videos and am inspired to return to my watercolor beginnings as a break from my acrylic gel printing. I love them both almost equally. My current watercolor inventory consists of QoR tube paints. While I know how to mix to achieve colors, I am becoming more lazy in that effort. Consequently I am looking for more of a pan style palette. I see you recommend Mashas. Unfortunately they are far beyond my pocket book. How do you feel about the Kuretami watercolors in comparison? Also besides Mashas what might be your favorite? I would appreciate your valued opinions.
Good morning, and thank you so much. I really think Kuretake sets are lovely, especially if you want something easy, portable, and more budget friendly. They do not feel quite the same as Masha’s to me, but they are still beautiful and very enjoyable to paint with. Besides Masha’s, I tend to love handmade palettes and also enjoy building my own pan palette from tube colors so I can choose the exact mixes I reach for most often.
Apologies auto correct changed my word from Kuretaki.
