Art Adventure: Breaking Down a Massive Abstract Painting
In this video, I take you through my process of creating some abstract art backgrounds using a large 22"x30" piece of Arches cold press watercolor paper and a color palette from The Color Cube. I demonstrate how I paint a huge abstract painting with watercolor and acrylic paints, which I then cut up into three smaller abstracts based on compositions I find appealing. By working on multiple pieces simultaneously, I show how painting backgrounds to revisit later can inspire further additions and help bring each artwork to completion. Join me as I explore the journey from a single canvas to multiple finished pieces, offering insights into my creative process along the way.

I have tried these
I love these little Breaking Down a Massive Abstract Painting cards. I have some now for gifts, or a quick note on someone’s door, that I missed. They can be name cards at the table too!. Love this idea.
So glad you loved it! Thank you! 🙂
Denise, you are so cute..Love your Art postings on Pinterest
I have a question. I did buy the gold nib and pen from Dick Blick supplies (That you talk about so highly) but I have a feeling it’s clogged now. What do I do to unclog it ?. Acetone -but then I would hate to ruin the metal on the gold nib
I did a video on my tips for that nib for my group a while back. I put it on youtube too, it might be helpful: https://youtu.be/5jiAXb3CuJ0?si=YxiZztdNhPvBnRuN
If you have the brass nib – I googled it: Yes, you can use acetone on brass. Acetone is a safe and effective solvent for removing lacquer and tarnish from brass.
Here is some info from the Kakimori website on the nib:
Precautions for Use:
When you first start using the pen, the oil on the surface may make it difficult for the ink to flow. By washing it with water or reapplying ink, it will gradually become easier to write with.
Hold it at a 45 degree angle and write.
When removing the Metal nib from the pen body, rotate it while pulling it out slowly. If you pull it out too quickly, the insert part may come off.
Because it is made with precision, if it is subjected to a strong impact, the ink may not come out easily.
If the ink that accumulates in the grooves dries completely, it will be difficult to remove, so please wash it frequently with water while using the pen.
We recommend using it with Kakimori or Inkstand pigment inks.
If the hardened ink is difficult to remove, gently scrub it with a soft toothbrush and rinse with water.
If you use detergent, use a neutral detergent. Do not use alkaline detergent as it will have a negative effect on the surface.
The color and other aspects will change over time.
