Abstract Art Journal Spread with Japanese Watercolors & Mark Making
Join me as I paint an abstract art journal page using the beautiful Kissoh Japanese Gansai watercolors, inspired by a color palette from the Color Cube!
I start with loose and expressive watercolor layers on watercolor paper, then build depth and texture with creative mark making using a variety of mixed media supplies.
Watch as the page evolves with color, movement, and playful details. Whether you're new to abstract journaling or looking for fresh inspiration, this tutorial will spark your creativity and encourage you to experiment in your own art journal. Let’s create together!

Hello Denise Love
I’m sure you know that the “Paint and Sip” industry has been around for some 15 years now.
In all that time the only innovation has been to “dumb it down” for people by providing pre sketched canvases.
This is essentially a glorified coloring book.
Have you ever given thought to creating and marketing a series of classes that can be taught in much the same way as the Paint and Sip events?
The requirements would be a 2.5-hour class, easily achievable by non-artists, cost effective and yielding distinctive results.
In short, turn some of your videos into workshops that can be taught by anyone.
I teach kintsugi here in San Diego and am working on turning a couple of your short abstract videos into a class I can teach at a variety of venues.
There are probably several hundred people looking to do the same but would rather pay for a complete formatted workshop they can copy.
I’ll let you know how I do with my (your) workshop and how well it is received.
As long as you have the techniques and there is a market for newer workshops to teach, then why not take advantage of it.
Thanks for the inspiration.
Thank you so much for sharing this with me—it’s such a thoughtful idea. I’ve definitely thought about the “paint and sip” style of class, and you’re right, there’s a big market for approachable projects that non-artists can enjoy in just a couple of hours. It’s wonderful that you’re bringing creativity to new audiences through your own teaching!
