Abstract Art Journal Session | Taped-Off Pages + Color Palette Play
In today’s art journal session, I’m continuing to fill one of my handmade Bare Spine Beauty journals from the Bare Spine Beauty class, and I’m using Color Cube palettes as my starting point.
I’m painting two abstract spreads where I change the dominant color on each page to see how the same palette behaves when I let a different hue lead. To add more visual interest inside the book, I tape off different sizes so the abstracts feel varied and intentional across the spread. Along the way I layer Holbein gouache, Kingart gel crayons and gel sticks, NeoColor II pastels, graphite, Faber-Castell Black Collection pencils, and Posca pens for lots of mark making, texture, and that satisfying mixed media depth.
If you love color play, intuitive abstracts, and building layered pages one mark at a time, come create with me.

Looking for the supplies I used? I’ve listed all my favorite and most-used materials on one easy-to-update page here: https://2lilowls.com/favorite-supplies-for-mixed-media-abstract-art/
(Some of the links are affiliate links. If you use my link, I get a small commission, which will go toward my art supplies and to support this channel! I appreciate your support!!)
Note: I don’t list individual supply links on every post any longer, simply because keeping up with that for each video or project took more time than I have. Instead, I’ve created one easy-to-browse page where I’ve listed all my favorite and most-used art supplies. It’s always up to date, and a great place to find what I’m working with most often.
