A Few Of My Very Favorite Art Supplies…

It’s no secret that I love art supplies…

in fact…

I have such a large collection of art supplies, I just might as well call it a mini art store in my studio.

Collecting art supplies and actually using them is 2 different hobbies… HA!

So in all my years of adding to my stash of goodies…

there have been a few supplies that I go to over and over again. These are ones I’d consider my very favorite and I’m going to let you in on what they are below.

Caran d’Ache Neocolor II Aquarelle Artists’ Pastels…

These might be the most versatile of all the supplies I have. They are fantastic for mark making and they are water-soluble. I’ll admit, for years I just used these for the mark-making aspect of them. Just recently have I been pushing the boundaries of this supply and using them in their water-soluble compacity.

Whoa…

mind blown…

opened up a whole new world on using this fun supply.

I have a new Skillshare class on pushing your skills with these here.

Uni Posca Paint Markers

Oooohh!

I love these paint markers…

Absolutely the best for making marks and dots on your art. I use these on almost every piece I do!

Princeton Neptune Series 4750 Synthetic Squirrel Brushes

I have a lot of paintbrushes…

But I really love how these perform.

They are a synthetic version of Squirrel, soft, and hold a ton of water and color.

These I use with my watercolors mostly… and to push around some of the water-soluble crayons and pencils I use a lot.

Kuretake Mica Paste (also called: Sparkle batter Sumi of Kuretake Pearl calligraphy liquid gold on Amazon)

This stuff is magical…

This paste contains finely ground gold mica particles. Water may be added to the Mica Paste to achieve the desired consistency.

I originally got this in my SketchBox subscription. I’ve never seen it before or heard of anyone using it…

But now I think it might be my #1 favorite art supply.

That is what I love about getting the Sketchbox… the surprise of what you get each month… and discovering some unique things I never would have found otherwise!

I use this in its full consistency a lot to make beautiful gold marks and swashes on my abstract art. I ordered some extra from Amazon and it came in from Taiwan after about a month, I have since found it on the Blick website too.

Sennelier Soft Pastels

The pastels might be the art material that gives me the most joy… just looking at these little half sticks of color in the antique wood drawer divider I found at the antique store, makes me happy every single time I’m up in my studio.

I love the vibrant colors…

I love using them…

I love taking photos of them…

They are such a versatile medium… I use them for mark-making, and I use them with water to get a chalky watercolor effect.

I hope you loved seeing a few of my very favorite art supplies… I’d love to know what your favorite art supplies are! leave me a comment if you got something you think I’d love!
